JUAN BAYÓN
Juan Bayón is one of the most prominent performers in the Buenos Aires scene in recent years. As a double bassist and composer, he has been involved in projects led by Adrián Iaies, Paula Shocron, Damián Bolotín, Eloy Michelini, Eleonora Eubel, Camila Nebbia, Martín Sued, Francisco Rivero, Ricardo Cavalli, Guillermo Romero, and many others on a national level. Internationally, he has accompanied musicians like Tony Malaby, Jakob Bro, Andrew D’Angelo, Tommy Smith, Danny Grissett, Ches Smith, Matija Dedić, Jeff Lederer, Eva Klesse, Paolo Di Sabatino, William Winant, Darmon Meader, and Judy Niemack.
Whether on double bass or electric bass, he has collaborated with artists such as Cecilia Todd, Elena Roger, Nahuel Pennisi, Valeria Lynch, Sandra Mihanovich, Raúl Lavié, Victor Heredia, Manuel Wirzt, and many others. He has also contributed to numerous musical theater productions. As a member of Adrián Iaies’ trio from 2012 to 2017, he was nominated for a Latin Grammy for La Casa de un Pianista de Jazz and served as a juror for the Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Jazz category, 2020).
Juan Bayón has released five albums under his name: Trance (2010), Control (Fondo Nacional de las Artes Award, 2014), Vidas Simples (2018), El Sonido de la Diferencia (2019), and Silencio Ensordecedor (2021). He has also been featured as a supporting musician on approximately 100 recorded albums. His music was featured in the Variaciones Walsh program on Argentina’s Public Television channel in 2016.
Between 2013 and 2020, he co-directed the cooperative record label Kuai Music, a crucial player in understanding the jazz scene in Buenos Aires over the past decade, releasing 52 albums of contemporary Argentinian music.
